Mine Day
August 21, 2021 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Mine Day commemorates 45th anniversary of the re-opening of the Bevans Mine in 1976. It is a celebration of the pioneering spirit of ingenuity, inquiry, enterprise and development that shaped the mining district as well as our Museum. Join us for a day of earth science and industrial crafts fun and festivities.
All day, enjoy family-focused activities including the Mini-Mill Treasure Table activity; earth science, gem, and mineral exhibition; hands-on lapidary arts and crafts demonstration; and live acoustic music by Corey Jenny. Visitors can enjoy a lead pour and casting at noon; carbide lamp, black powder, and rocketry demonstrations at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; and pneumatic drilling demonstration from noon to 4 p.m. At 3:30 p.m. Steve Bussan, author of โMining In the Driftless,โ will deliver a talk and book signing. Guided Mine Tours and Train Rides will be half price and extra tours will be offered throughout the day. Reservations are suggested but not required.
