Friends Annual Meeting & Program: Slavery in Platteville, Part 3

The Friends of The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums invite you to their Annual Meeting on November 7th at 4 p.m. The meeting will start with the final lecture in a three-part series by Historian James B. Hibbard and continue with a presentation of the major accomplishments of 2020 and exciting plans for 2021. For the health of our members, all presentations will be held via Zoom. Program:ย Slavery in Platteville, Part3: Black Lead Miners in Platteville: The Story of William Maxwellย 
Historian James B. Hibbardย  will highlightย William Maxwell’s career as a Black lead miner.ย Maxwell holds the distinction of establishing his own lead diggings in Platteville, where he employed four other miners. He was also the first Black man in Grant County to successfully use the court system to collect a debt. A Q&A with the speaker will follow the talk.

Annual Meeting:ย 2020 Highlights andย Plansย for 2021ย 
The Friends of The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums Board and Museum staff will present highlights of the Museumsโ€™ 2020 accomplishments; reveal exciting plans and milestones for 2021; introduce museum staff members, including the new collections care team; and recognize and thank the Museums many volunteers

The Annual Meeting and Program is offered as a benefit for 2020 members and donors of the Friends of the Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Friends encouraging supporters to join, renew, or make their annual gift; as well as an opportunity to thank volunteers, donors, and board members.
