The Rollo Jamison Museum Exhibits
The self-guided Rollo Jamison Museum exhibits take you back in time to the turn of the 20th century for a look at what life was like in Platteville and southwest Wisconsin.
The Mining Museum Exhibits
These self-guided exhibits trace the development of lead and zinc mining in the Upper Mississippi Valley Lead and Zinc district from its beginning in the 1820s until active mining stopped in 1979.
The 1845 Bevans Lead Mine Tour
A guided tour of the Bevans Lead Mine takes you underground to see how the miners freed the galena (lead ore) and zinc from the rock and sent it to the surface. (Please note that there are 90 steps to be climbed to tour the mine. Comfortable shoes and a jacket will make you visit more enjoyable.)
Riding the Mine Train
Take a seat in one of the ore cars pulled by the 1931 Whitcomb 5-ton mine locomotive for a tour of our grounds. (Rides on the mine train are given with ever tour, weather permitting.)
The Headframe Replica
The tour ends in the headframe where you see what a hoist house was like at an early 20th century zinc mine.
