New Exhibit Opens Soon: Horse Racing and the Big Badger Fair

The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums are proud to announce a new exhibit focusing on the Big Badger Fair opening May 1, 2017. Platteville’s Big Badger Fair was the highlight of the summer during the first half of the 20th century, and the highlight of the fair was its program of horse races. This exhibit will feature wooden-wheeled sulkies, fair banners, photographs, fancywork, and more. Get ready to come to the fair!

Members Opening Reception

To celebrate this new exhibit, we will host a Members Opening on Sunday, April 30th from 3:00 – 5:00 pm for members of the Friends of the Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums to get a sneak peek at the exhibit and take a special candlelit tour of the mine the day before it opens to the public for the 2017 tour season. Light refreshments will be provided. The Members Opening is free for members, $20 for non-members.

Big Badger Fair Family Day

Family-friendly activities and horse-related fun await you at this event co-sponsored by the Platteville Regional Chamber await you on Saturday, May 6th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.
